Interview With Jitu Basnet

Jitu Basnet was born in the southern part of Bhutan in Lapsibote 34 years ago and ended up 18 years at the refugee camp in the district of Jhapa in Beldange. He loved soccer and had to play in several Eastern Nepalese clubs. After he was relocated to Tennessee, however, he flourished as a football player and coach five years ago in the United States. Three years ago, he received his referee license from the U.S. Foundation and regularly trades for football games and coaches in Nashville. He’s got now a car, a home or a country – things in the refugee camp which he didn’t have. Purna Khawas, also former refugee from Bhutan, is Basnet’s assistant coach for Nashville.
